Asbestos Certification PDF Print E-mail
You must be certified by November 1 if you work in or supervise Type 3 operations

As of Nov. 1, 2007, all workers who are involved in Type 3 asbestos operations – and the supervisors of these workers – must be certified to do this work. This requirement is contained in the asbestos regular for construction. Ontario Regulation 278/05: Designated Substance – Asbestos on Construction Projects and in Buildings and Repair Operations.

Standards for two certification training programs have been developed by Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) with CSAO, the Ministry of Labour, and experts from Ontario’s asbestos abatement industry. The programs – called Asbestos Abatement Worker and Asbestos Abatement Supervisor – each consist of the following:

  • An in-school training component.
  • An on-the-job training component.
  • An MTCU test.
Supervisors must complete both the worker program and the supervisor program. For more information, contact your local MTCU office (find it by calling Employment Ontario at 1-800-387-5656) or check www.csao.org for updated information on availability and scheduling.
