MCAT & Local 46 Secure New Agreement PDF Print E-mail

MCA Toronto and Local 46 are pleased to announce that the 2007/2010 Collective Agreement was ratified on Monday, May 28, 2007. The wage details of the agreement will be sent to contractors in the near future. The agreement comes at a time when the Greater Toronto Market continues to be strong; a trend we believe will continue for years to come.

On May 4, 2007, MCA Toronto held the annual Spring Social / Committee Appreciation at the Crystal Fountain Banquet Hall in Markham. Following a delicious dinner, the attendees were entertained by Mr. James Cunningham who had the crowd in stitches with his stand-up comedy routine.

Additionally, MCA Toronto has partnered with the Ontario Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (ORAC) Contracting Association. As such MCAT will be welcoming an Ex-Officio member from ORAC to the Board of Governors.

On a business note, I am pleased to announce the Construction Bid Depository of Ontario has received financial commitments from Local and Provincial Trade Associations to continue for 2007 and 2008.  While this is a significant step it is important for all trade contractors and their associations to continue to support the Bid Depository.  Many contractors and their customers do not appreciate the potential benefits of the Bid Depository for their businesses.  The Bid Depository promotes fairness and equality in the bidding process and reduces bid shopping and other predatory practices that plague our industry.  The system is based on standardized rules and clear procedures which apply to all bidders.  Given the unfortunate decision of Double N Earthmovers Ltd. v. Edmonton (City) by the Supreme Court of Canada the Bid Depository may be the only way to prevent abusive practices within the bidding process in the future.

In the next few months we have several major events scheduled. We will be hosting an Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI) Seminar on June 11, 2007 for contractors wishing to learn more about the ALI program. The National Pipe Trades Conference will be held in Toronto from June 17 to 22, 2007. MCAT is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the Toronto Harbour Cruise being held on June 20, 2007.

On Thursday, June 21, MCA Toronto will be hosting its 17th Annual Golf Classic at Kleinburg Golf and Country Club. I look forward to seeing you all there!
